Lonny Magazine: Bohemian Rhapsody

Lonny Magazine is one of my favorites - so I was more than excited to see my friend Caroline's apartment featured in this month's issue! Her sister Anna Burke is a talented interior designer that has flourished under the tutelage of Celerie Kemble. I especially love how the "DIY Darling" incorporates her own artwork into the decor.

Caroline and Anna live together in the West Village. I love when sisters live together! My sister SAB just found a new apartment in NYC - but sadly, she is moving in just as we are moving out! At the end of April, DW and I will be Nantucket-bound, but back to the city in the fall to take on the adventure of a new apartment. Lots of things to be excited about for sure - and lots of new decorating projects!

Decorate with Coral

Anyone who knows me will attest - I love most anything having to do with the ocean. When it comes to interior design - this translates into the desire to incorporate shells, shades of blue, and coral whenever and wherever the opportunity arises.

I have yet to catch the etsy bug - but my sister SAB is all over everything etsy, especially DIY interior design ideas. She suggested the idea of buying etsy coral prints and framing them. I could also paint them myself... sounds like a fun spring project to me!!

Blog Love: The Pink Pagoda

I am always on the hunt for fun and inspiring blogs. My current daily reads include note to self, Design Darling, the Daily Spark, Atlantic - Pacific, Habitually Chic, Slim Paley, The Glitter Guide, and now - The Pink Pagoda.

Current favorites from TPP:

The Pink Pagoda has a plethora of interior design ideas and photo spreads - (my Pinterest has been blowing up) She also has an etsy store - in case you want to add some chinoiserie to your life (for only $20 - $40 a print!).

Island Style: India Hicks

Lately I have been craving some time in the sun. Which prompted me to look into the fabulous life and sunny escapes of one of my favorite caribbean style icons, India Hicks.

Check out India's guide to summer on Tory Burch's blog... (alas, summer is still months away - but I can't help it!)

Side note - I am sure you already knew this, but India was one of Princess Diana's bridesmaids, and her father (David Hicks) was an amazing interior designer. What a family!

Guest Post: Mermaid Colors by Design Shuffle

Hi, I'm Joanna, a writer for Design Shuffle, an online portfolio site for interior designers to show their work and design enthusiasts to enjoy. I spend my time searching the web for some of the loveliest rooms around and bringing them to share on blogs such as Mermaid in Madras. What little girl hasn't dreamed of being a mermaid? Well, now that we're big girls, we can keep the dream alive by decorating our spaces in the colors of the sea and shore. Besides adding color to a space, you can also create a coastal dÈcor with touches of shells and coral. Take a look at some of the interior designs we found that remind us of mermaid colors. Thanks for letting me share with you today.

Mermaid Colors

This room, dressed in aqua and yellow, reminds us of a sunny day on the beach or maybe the colors of a mermaid's tail.

Mermaid Colors

This room is full of dining room design ideas. The glint of a mermaid's scales might include turquoise and pink like the rooms shown here.

Mermaid Colors

Aqua and a sandy beige are the order of the day in this plush bedroom. Doesn't it make you question - where does a mermaid sleep?

Mermaid Colors

Another aqua and driftwood hued space carries mermaid colors throughout its interior design for a totally lovely space.

Mermaid Colors

A lovely canopy bed draped in yards of aqua silk offers the perfect place to dream of swimming with the mermaids. This bedroom design is whimsical and dreamy.

Mermaid Colors

Are those bubbles on the rug and at the windows? A seaside scene plays out on the far wall of the room behind an oversize floor lamp.

Mermaid Colors

Not all mermaids are bright aqua, some we've seen are softly hued like the blue room above. A seashell collection adorns a built in on the far wall.

There is no mistaking this is a mermaid's bath with its fun tile mosaic and coral and seaweed accents. Will these bathroom ideas become a part of your mermaid dÈcor? Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8
